This year the Pistons are one of the most intriguing young teams in the league. Watching how they develop and the strides that potential super star in the making Andre Drummond take this year will be some of the great stories in the league this season. The theory behind the assembly of this team seems to be the oft used strategy of putting together talented players and simply finding a way to make it all work.

Such a philosophy throw talent together and hope it works out puts a large burden of responsibility on the coaching staff as well as veteran leadership on the floor. Thankfully the Detroit Pistons have plenty of both this season. Maurice Cheeks coming over from the Oklahoma City Thunder was an excellent choice as head coach. He comes from a excellent winning team and has the reputation of a consummate professional and a track record of success. To guide this young team on the floor is none other than Chauncey Billups back in Detroit to hopefully reawaken the glory days and help bring the Pistons back to the promised land. With these two at the helm Detroit should be looking at a very successful upcoming season.

There are a lot of key pieces on this Detroit roster and how they fit together on the floor will really tell the story of how the Pistons fair this year. First of all the defense of this team, like great Pistons teams in the past, should be among the most dynamic in the league. Andre Drummond is an enormous athletic freak of nature down low who will block shots and destroy people on the defensive glass. Greg Monroe is another versatile long defensive asset and to go along with all of this Chauncey Billups will be there now to bolster the defense on the perimeter. The offense is where the questions arise about how the talent on this roster will be utilized. There should certainly be enough perimeter floor spacers on this team if that's how they want to play it but such a move would be dependent on certain players willingness to cut down on their free shooting ways. Both Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings have tendencies to take ill advised shots from deep mid range as well as, especially in Smith's case, behind the arc. Their willingness to operate within the offense and become more efficient will have a huge bearing on this teams offensive effectiveness this summer. This team is going to be very exciting this season and looking at the pieces they have added and their leadership it should be a very prosperous year in Detroit.
