Coming off a 2014 that was nearly wildly successful, the Dallas Cowboys attempt to put the “drop” behind them and move onto bigger and better things this season as they attempt to get back to the Super Bowl where both they and their owner believe they belong.
Preview: Dallas really does have the pieces in place to make another run at making it to the last game of the season as they have held on to the majority of their main contributors while also making some additions to what was a surprisingly solid defense last season. Tony Romo is still operating at a very high level and his back issues seem to be, at least for now, mostly an afterthought as he had a healthy season in 2014 and seems to be in very good shape right now. On offense the biggest concern has to be the departure of DeMarco Murray who had an incredible season last year but will not be there in the back field to help out Tony Romo when the passing game isn’t going the way they want it to. I wonder if Dez Bryant and the rest of the receiving corps would have had as good of a season last year without the defense having to be so concerned with the running game.
Last season Dallas was supposed to have the worst defense in the league by a large margin but some solid coaching and a considerable margin of overachieving made this unit middle of the pack if not better and instrumental in the success of this team. The Cowboys should have another decent year on defense as the addition of Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory as the return of the injured Sean Lee should give them a well-deserved boost. Overall there is no reason that this unit cannot be at least as good as it was last year.
Prediction: With no one else in the NFC East really looking to have shown much improvement in the off season I see Dallas probably winning their division and having a good chance at making a playoff run similar to last season but a lot of the success of this team will depend on them being able to run the ball at least a little bit.
Projected Record: 11-5
