Colorado picked up a nice win for their resume the other day getting past Xavier at home by a final of 68-66. The Buffaloes were in need of a resume boosting result in the nonconference with their only other win of note coming against Texas. On the year Colorado now stands 7-2 overall with their defeats coming against Notre Dame and Colorado State. The Buffaloes have brought the defensive intensity this season ranking 54th in the nation in total defense compared to 155th in scoring average. We really expect more out of this Colorado offensive attack this season given some of the weapons they have. Derrick White has led the team averaging 15 points per game.
BYU wasn’t quite able to come through for us the other day against the spread as the Cougars went on to beat the struggling Weber State Wildcats at home by a final of 77-66. BYU has opened the year 6-2 overall with their defeats coming against Valpo at home and USC on the road, and the Cougars will get another tough test today. BYU loves to push the pace of play as this group ranks an impressive 17th in the nation in scoring average compared to 260th in total defense. Big man Eric Mika has been strong out of the gate leading the team averaging 21.4 points per game.
Colorado will try to leverage their defensive strengths here against BYU as they try to keep things competitive pushing for the upset. Colorado proved they can hang with strong competition getting past Xavier and the Buffs will look for another nonconference resume win today. We like Colorado getting the points in what should be a competitive matchup.
