The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a nice win getting past Memphis last week by a final of 85-77. This was a nice bounce back result for the Rebels who were coming off a less than ideal 62-77 defeat against MTSU. On the year Ole Miss stands 6-2 overall with some of their better wins coming against Saint Joe’s and Montana, but this group is really lacking strong resume building results. The Rebels toughest matchup came against Creighton on a neutral site and Ole Miss competed, but came up short losing by a final of 77-86. Ole Miss has favored pushing he pace ranking 39th in the nation in scoring compared to 316th in total defense. Deandre Burnett has stepped up to lead the team averaging an impressive 21.6 points per game.
The Virginia Tech Hokies made some noise in the ACC last season and this group is looking to get to the NCAA tournament this year with head coach Williams getting this program headed back in the right direction. Virginia Tech has gotten off to a strong start to the year standing 7-1 overall with some of their better wins coming against Michigan, New Mexico, and Nebraska. In their last outing Va Tech handled their business at home beating UMES at home by a final of 75-59. The Hokies have been getting the job done on both sides ranking 67th in the nation in scoring average and 88th in total defense. Returner Zach LeDay leads the team averaging 17.4 points per game.
Virginia Tech has a solid home court advantage which they’ll continue to use this season as they try to build up their resume. Ole Miss is heading into one of their toughest tests n the young season and it’ll be interesting to see how the Rebels respond. We like for Va Tech’s defense to be a difference maker today as they go on to win and cover the spread.
