Even though Auburn lost some key players this past offseason, we still liked this group to potentially be a surprise team in the SEC as head coach Bruce Pearl continues to implement his system and bring in his recruits. Auburn has even surpassed our expectations so far this season standing 6-1 overall with some of their better wins coming against Texas Tech on a neutral site and in their last outing against UAB on the road by a final of 74-70. Auburn relies a lot on the three point shot and the Tigers’’ have been putting up some decent offensive numbers this season standing 78th in the nation in scoring average. Auburn is starting to build some bench depth, which they haven’t had in recent years, and this unit has been led by Mustapha Heron who’s averaging 15.4 points per game.
Boston College has been mired in the basement of the ACC in recent years and the Eagles are expected to finish last in the conference this season given the lack of talent and experience this group has compared to most other teams in one of the best basketball conferences in the nation. Boston College has been up and down so far this season standing 4-5 overall with their offense ranking 259th in the nation in scoring average while ranking 143rd in total defense. In their last outing BC came up short against Hartford at home losing by a final of 63-65. Boston College has fallen in 4 of their last 5 games heading into this matchup. Jerome Robinson has been the offensive spark for this group as he leads the team averaging 18.9 points per game.
The Under Armour Reunion will be played on a neutral site at MSG, but Auburn does have to travel a bit further for whatever that’s worth. Boston College has been very inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball and keeping pace here against the Tigers won’t be easy. We like for Auburn to outpace the Eagles as they go on to win and cover the spread.
