The Saint Joe’s Hawks have been a bit up and down this season standing 4-4 overall coming into this tough matchup on the road against a veteran Princeton group. The Hawks were able to snap out of their 4 game losing streak the other day getting past Drexel on the road by a final of 72-71. It’s never great going on a 4 game losing streak, but in Saint Joe’s defense the defeats came against quality competition losing to Ole Miss, NC State, Temple, and Villanova. Running through a tough stretch of games such as this can really harden up a group, especially during the nonconference. The Hawks have been led by Shavar Newkirk who’s been great on the offensive end averaging 21.1 points per game.
The Princeton Tigers return pretty much everyone from last year’s squad that found a bit of success in the Ivy League. Princeton comes into this year as the favorites to win their conference, but this group hasn’t gotten off to as strong of a start as they were hoping for standing 4-4 overall with some less than ideal results along the way. In their last outing the Tigers had a tough time getting past Liberty on the road picking up the win in the end by a final of 67-64. Princeton hasn’t been putting up as strong of numbers as we were expecting this year on the offensive end as this group ranks 207th in the nation in scoring average compared to 71st in total defense. Stven Cook leads this balanced attack averaging 13.5 points per game.
Princeton hasn’t been playing up to their expectations which is surprising for a team that returns this much veteran talent. Saint Joe’s has been largely competitive in their defeats against quality opposition other than their road loss against Villanova. We like for the hawks to keep things respectable here against the Tigers as they go on to cover this moderate spread.
