Long Beach State has gone against an incredibly brutal schedule so far this season playing a very tough road heavy slate standing 2-10 overall. LBSU brings in a lot of transfer talent this season to bolster a roster that has the potential to win the Big West and the 49ers are getting hardened up in preparation for league play. In their last outing Long Beach State came up just short on the road against Texas losing to the Horns by a final of 65-71. LBSU has been showing some better results as of late staying competitive and even picking up a D1 win at home against Pepperdine. LBSU is figuring things out with their new lineup against elite competition, but this is a matchup the 49ers should be able to challenge for the win today.
Oregon State has been really struggling out of the gate even against some of the more manageable competition they’ve gone against. To make things worse for the Beavers they’re also now playing without their best player with Tres Tinkle being out. Oregon State stands just 3-7 overall going against a fraction of the competition that LBSU has faced thus far in the nonconference. In their last outing Oregon State took on a bad loss at home against Savannah State losing by a final of 90-93 in what has to be a deflating result for the Beavers. Stephen Thompson Jr. is back in the lineup for Oregon State and he’s been working his way back into the swing of thing now leading the team averaging 14.8 points per game.
Long Beach State is battle tested on the road so far this season and this is finally a matchup where the 49ers should be able to come through. Oregon State has been putting up some very poor performances including their last outing losing as significant favorites at home. We like the 49ers to come through as they go on to win and cover the spread.
