Georgetown hasn’t gotten off to the kind of start they were hoping for this season standing 6-4 overall, but this group is starting to build some momentum winning 4 straight as they head into this matchup on the road against rival Syracuse. In their last outing Georgetown put together one of their best performances of the early season beating a decent La Salle squad by a final of 93-78. The Hoyas have looked to push the pace of play more this season and the transition has been taking some time to implement. The Hoyas are starting to put up some respectable numbers standing 77th in the nation in scoring average and 169th in total defense. Rodney Pryor has been outstanding for Georgetown leading the team averaging 20.6 points per game.
Unlike Georgetown, Syracuse has been leaning on their strong zone defense and slowing the action as they stand 6-3 overall ranking 148th in the nation in scoring average and 18th in total defense. Syracuse also hasn’t gotten off to a hot start, but that had to be expected with this group implementing a lot of new faces coming off their surprise Final Four run a year ago. The Orange are coming off one of their better offensive performances of the season getting past Boston U at home by a final of 99-77. In their prior outing Syracuse fell in a tough test against UConn losing to the Huskies by a final of 50-52. Newcomer Andrew White has led the offense being the only player to average in double figures putting up 16.9 points per game.
We expect this to be a more competitive matchup today between these rivals than Vegas is projecting. Both teams remain a work in progress and hope to get everything in order by time conference action rolls around. We like the Hoyas to stay competitive as they go on to cover this moderate spread against the Orange.
