Indiana State is coming off their worst result of the year falling to Western Kentucky earlier in the week at home by a final of 59-77. The Sycamores have put up some nice results this season standing 5-5 overall with their best wins coming against Ball State, Utah State, and Butler. Outside of their last outing Indiana State has been consistently competitive in most of their wins and losses. Indiana State leans more on their defense as this group ranks 127th in the nation in total defense going against some tough competition this season. Brenton Scott is the clear cut leader on the offensive end leading the squad averaging 19.5 points per game.
Valparaiso has also done a great job of testing themselves in the nonconference and the Crusaders currently stand 8-2 overall with their only losses coming on the road against Oregon and Kentucky. Valpo is the favorite to win the Horizon this year in what should be another exciting and high scoring year for the league as a whole. In their last outing Valparaiso picked up a nice true road win against another MVC foe in Missouri State as the Crusaders went on to win by a final of 84-81. Valpo has shown they can play at all different kinds of paces this season and this group has been led by Alec Peters who’s averaging an impressive 25.3 points per contest.
Indiana State perhaps came back to Earth in their last outing and it’s going to be interesting to see how the Sycamores bounce back, especially after having some time off. The Crusaders have a nice home court advantage which they’ll use today against their in-state opponent. We like for Valpo to outpace Indiana State as they go on to win and cover the moderate spread.
