Tennessee State has put together some nice results in the nonconference thus far standing 8-2 overall with their defeats coming on the road against Vanderbilt and NC State. In their last outing the Tigers throttled Alabama St. at home picking up the win by a final of 68-46. If Tennessee State could get blown out by an opponent like Vanderbilt, then it wouldn’t seem like this group would have all that much of a chance in this one against one of the best all around teams in the nation. The Tigers have one of the better defensive units in the OVC as this group ranks 45th in the nation in points allowed compared to just 249th in scoring average.
The Duke Blue Devils have gotten off to the great start everyone was expecting and that’s been playing without all of their guys healthy and ready to go. Duke has impressed standing 10-1 overall ranking 18th in the nation in scoring average and 26th in total defense. The Blue Devils have been throttling their opposition at home this season and in their last outing Duke looked impressive getting by UNLV by a final of 94-45. Duke has picked up some solid resume building wins against teams like Florida, Michigan State, and Rhode Island with their one loss coming against Kansas. Veteran Luke Kennard leads the scoring effort averaging 20 points per contest.
Duke has a much higher ceiling on the offensive side of the ball than Tennessee State and the Tigers will likely have a tough time keeping pace in this one unless they bring an elite defensive effort. Duke has the horses to roll past the Tigers and on their home court we like the Blue Devils to get the job done as they cover the spread.
