Duquesne has had some tough results this season opening the year 3-5 overall coming off a less than ideal 72-81 loss at home against UMBC in their last outing. In the Dukes’ toughest matchup this season Duquesne fell to Kentucky on the road by a final of 59-93. The Dukes are expected to take a step back this season returning just 2 starters to a group that had a tough time in the A-10 last year going 6-12 overall. Duquesne has had issues on both sides of the ball ranking 231st in the nation in scoring average and 252nd in points allowed. Duquesne has been spreading the ball around on the offensive side of the ball with Tarin Smith leading the team averaging 11 points per game.
The Pitt Panthers have put up some solid results to open the year standing 6-1 overall with resume building wins coming against Marquette and in their last outing on the road against Maryland by a final of 73-59. Pitt put in the work on the defensive side of the ball against the Terps as they went on to get the upset win in the tough road environment. The Panthers bring in a new coaching staff this season and so far so good for the Panthers early on. Pitt has been putting up some decent offensive numbers averaging 80.1 points per game. Top returning veterans Michael Young and Jamel Artis lead the team averaging 23.6 and 19.7 points per game respectively.
The Pitt Panthers have the matchup advantage coming into this contest and if the Panthers bring in the kind of focus they showed in their last outing against Maryland then Pitt should go on to pick up the win and cover against the Dukes.
