Youngstown State has been very streaky on the offensive side of the ball this season, but when this group gets hot they can be a tough matchup. Youngstown State currently stands 6-6 overall coming off a hard fought 101-97 win at home against Niagara. In a road outings against Michigan State earlier in the month the Penguins were competitive for awhile, until they fell apart in the end losing to the Spartans by a final of 57-77 on a cold shooting night. YSU ranks 70th in the nation in scoring average and 314th in total defense and star Cameron Morse has led the offensive attack averaging 23.8 points.
The Ohio State Buckeyes got off to a very strong start to their season, but the Buckeyes have been tailing off as of late losing 3 of their last 5 to stand 8-3 overall thus far in the nonconference. Ohio State wasn’t able to pull off the upset in their last outing losing to UCLA on a neutral site by a final of 73-86. The Buckeyes also have a recent home loss against FAU that really hurts the Buckeyes’ RPI. Ohio State is a defensive oriented group ranking 42nd in the nation in points allowed compared to 180th in scoring average. The Buckeyes are hoping to get back to the NCAA tournament this season and this group has 5 guys averaging in double figures scoring with Tate leading the team averaging 14 points per game.
This should be an interesting matchup to watch with the strength of YSU’s offense going against Ohio State’ tough defense. YSU has the ability to keep things competitive, but Ohio State should be hungry coming off a defeat. With that said we like the Penguins getting the generous amount of points as the best bet in this one.
