Georgia Southern came through for us in their last outing as the Eagles went on to get past FIU on the road by a final of 75-68. Georgia Southern is heading into their 4th straight true road game and fatigue is something of a concern in this matchup as a result. Georgia Southern has been putting up some respectable results this season standing 6-5 overall and ranking around 170th in the nation in both scoring average and total defense. The offense is run through guys like Smith and Brown who’re averaging 19.8 and 14.4 points per contest respectively.
Winthrop is one of the favorites to win the Big South this season and the Eagles have been putting up some nice numbers so far this season standing 6-3 overall picking up some of their better wins against Furman, Illinois, and Manhattan. In their last outing Winthrop held off Hampton on the road picking up the win by a final of 86-79. Winthrop has shown the ability to put up some solid offensive numbers ranking 85th in the nation in scoring average with guys like Keon Johnson and Xavier Cooks leading the team averaging 18.6 and 15.7 points per game respectively.
Winthrop doesn’t have the most overwhelming home court by any means and we don’t expect the crowd to be much of a factor in this one given the early mid-week start time. Georgia Southern has a lot of road experience this season and in what should be a very competitive matchup we’ll side with Georgia Southern and the points as the better play.
Georgia Southern +4 -110
