Jacksonville State has faced a lot of action this season with mixed results standing 7-6 overall coming into this challenge against one of the better mid-majors in the nation. The Gamecocks have gone against a road heavy slate playing in 10 true road games thus far in the nonconference and this’ll be their 7th straight road game over the past few weeks. In their last outing the Gamecocks were able to come through on the road beating South Carolina Upstate by a final of 67-66, but this’ll be a much tougher test for JSU. Jacksonville State is picked to finish in the bottom tier of the OVC this season and this group currently has 3 players averaging in double figures with Erick Durham leading the team averaging 12.5 points per contest.
The Chattanooga Mocs were very competitive, but came up just short in their last outing on the road losing to Vanderbilt by a final of 74-76. Chattanooga stands 8-3 overall with some of their better wins coming against Tennessee on the road and Marshall at home. Chattanooga is the favorite to win the SoCon, but they’ll get a serious challenge from ETSU atop the league, The Mocs like to push the pace of play and this group currently ranks 49th in the nation in scoring average and 129th in total defense. This veteran squad is led by Tre’ McLean who’s averaging 14.5 points per game.
Chattanooga hasn’t put together the kind of nonconference needed to get at-large consideration come March and it would be a shame if this group was unable to get back to the Big Dance this season. Chattanooga is still a deadly veteran squad that will rarely beat themselves this season and we like for the home team to come through in this afternoon game as they go on to win and cover the spread.
