Duke didn’t overwhelm in their last outing as the Blue Devils had a tough time putting away Tennessee State picking up the win by a final of 65-55. This was one of the worst offensive performances of the year for Duke and it’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back in this neutral site game against a weaker defensive opponent. Even without playing at full strength through the nonconference, Duke has still been solid standing 11-1 overall with their only loss coming against Kansas. Duke ranks 25th in the nation in scoring average and 21st in total defense. Duke has a number of elite offensive scoring options with Kennard and Allen leading the team averaging 20.3 and 17.2 points per game respectively.
The Elon Phoenix have been putting together respectable results so far this season standing 7-4 overall coming into this challenge against one of the best teams in the nation. Elon was able to break out of their 3 game losing streak the other day getting past Saint Peter’s on the road by a final of 68-53. The Phoenix are likely to be a mid-tier team in the CAA this season with a chance to play spoiler come March. Elon’s strength has been coming on the offensive side of the ball as the Phoenix rank 82nd in the nation in scoring average and 219th in total defense. Elon brings a very balanced attack with 5 players averaging between 10-13 points per game.
Duke didn’t look great in their last outing and we’re interested in seeing how the Blue Devils respong coming into another mid-major test. Elon isn’t a complete pushover and they have the ability to keep things respectable if Duke continues to struggle with their shots. We’ll side with the Phoenix to keep things respectable as they go on to cover this large spread.
