The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are one of the favorites to win the Horizon this season and this has potential upset written all over it if Michigan State continues to put up less than stellar performances. Oakland has been turning in consistently strong performances thus far in the nonconference standing 9-2 overall, but the Golden Grizzlies are lacking in the resume win department. Oakland picked up a nice 74-53 win on the road recently against Robert Morris and on the year the Golden Grizzlies rank 31st in the nation in scoring average and 79th in total defense. Martez Walker has stepped up right away to lead the offense averaging 18.5 points per game.
Michigan State has been a frustrating group to watch so far this season as this talented squad has struggled standing 7-5 overall with a number of head scratching results coming along the way. Michigan State is coming off an embarrassing defeat losing at home to Northeastern by a final of 73-81 in a game the Spartans were significant favorites. Michigan State also has recent competitive home wins against teams like Tennessee Tech, Oral Roberts, and FGCU. On the year Michigan State ranks just 221st in the nation in scoring average with newcomer Miles Bridges leading the attack averaging 16.6 points per game, but he’ll be out again for today’s game.
This is a great chance for Oakland to pick up a program building win against Michigan State on the road and with how the Spartans have been playing the Golden Grizzlies have a excellent shot. Michigan State has struggled against mid-major at home this season even losing to a Northeastern squad that doesn’t stack up as well as Oakland. Side with the Golden Grizzlies and the points in what should be a close game.
