The Clemson Tigers are hoping to make a run to the NCAA tournament this season and Clemson has gotten off to a solid start standing 8-2 overall with their only defeats coming against Xavier and Oklahoma back in the early part of the nonconference. Clemson has picked up 6 straight wins including their last outing where the Tigers impressed on the road beating Alabama by a final of 67-54. The Tigers have been putting up some very impressive results over the past few weeks and Clemson currently stands 82nd in the nation in scoring average and 37th in total defense. Top returner Jaron Blossomgame leads the team averaging 17.6 points per game.
South Carolina was left out of the NCAA tournament a season ago and the Gamecocks have bulked up their nonconference strength of schedule this go around to help their chances come March. South Carolina has been putting up solid results even without leading scorer Thornwell on the court standing 9-1 overall with resume wins coming against Michigan, Monmouth, and Syracuse. In their last outing South Carolina came through on the road against South Florida picking up the win by a final of 77-66. South Carolina isn’t the same threat on the offensive end without Thornwell, but this is still an elite defensive unit ranking 4th in the nation in points allowed compared to 206th in scoring average.
This should be a fun in-state battle between these two program that both have a decent shot at making the NCAA tournament this season. South Carolina is undefeated on their home court this season standing 7-0, but this’ll be a step up in competition for the Gamecocks. Clemson looked very strong in their recent road game against Alabama and we like for the Tigers to come through here as they go on to cover the spread.
