Central Arkansas has gone against a very tough nonconference slate, which should prep them well for action in the Southland, but the Bears have had a tough time picking up upsets as Central Arkansas stands just 1-11 overall coming into this challenge against the Sun Devils. Central Arkansas took one on the chin in their last outing on the road losing to a reeling Morehead State group by a final of 85-111. This will be the Bears’ 6th true road game in their last 7 games and already the 10th true road game of the nonconference for Central Arkansas. The Bears rank a miserable 346th in the nation in total defense and their offense has been led by Jordan Howard who’s averaging 17.8 points per game.
It’s been a challenging start to the year for Arizona State as the Sun Devils stand 6-6 overall, but they get a very winnable matchup today at home which should help the Sun Devils get back above .500. Arizona State is coming off back to back home losses against New Mexico State and Creighton, but at least the Sun Devils were semi-competitive in each defeat. ASU has been challenging themselves in the nonconference, but mainly only coming through in their more manageable matchups. Arizona State has been putting up some respectable offensive numbers ranking 52nd in the nation in scoring average compared to just 337th in total defense. ASU lacks solid bench production and Torian Graham has led the offense averaging 17.1 points per game.
Central Arkansas is battle tested so far this season and perhaps they could play spoiler here to an Arizona State squad that’s probably overlooking the Bears. ASU should be able to grab the win, but we don’t have enough confidence in the Sun Devils to take them giving this many points.
Cent Arkansas +17.5 -110
