We took Arkansas State with some confidence in their last outing given the results they’ve been putting up this year, but the Red Wolves put up one of their lesser performance of the season falling to Alabama by a final of 52-67. Arkansas State has still been putting up some strong results during the nonconference standing 9-3 overall with their best win coming on the road against Georgetown. Arkansas State puts in the effort on both sides of the ball ranking 144th in the nation in scoring average and 105th in total defense going against a challenging slate. The Red Wolves have been led by Devin Carter who’s averaging 17.3 points per game.
Minnesota didn’t have very high expectations coming into the year, but the Golden Gophers have been taking care of business on their way to opening the year 11-1 overall. Minnesota was a huge disappointment in the Big Ten a season ago and to take a step forward the Gophers need to do a better job on their home court this year in conference. Minnesota has had some wins during the nonconference that haven’t been all that impressive like their last outing where the Gophers beat LIU Brooklyn by a final of 76-66. Minnesota has athleticism and this group has leaned on their defense to create offense as the Gophers rank 40th in the nation in points allowed compared to 124th in total defense.
Minnesota has been a bit streaky on their home court this season in terms of playing competitive games or winning in blowout fashion against the mid-major teams they’ve faced. Arkansas State is coming off one of their worst results, but this group has shown they can put up solid showings on the road this season. We like Arkansas State to bounce back as they go on to cover this spread against the Gophers.
