The Virginia Cavaliers have been downright elite on the defensive side of the ball this season ranking 1st in the nation giving up 47.2 points per game on average. Virginia is one of the most dangerous teams in the country given the effort they give on the defensive end and this group is also very unselfish spreading the ball around through their deep bench. Virginia stands 10-1 overall picking up resume building wins against teams like Iowa, Providence, Ohio State, and in their last outing on the road against Cal by a final of 56-52. The Cavaliers have 9 players averaging over 5 points per game which shows the strength of this rosters’ depth.
The Louisville Cardinals lost some of their key guys from last season, much like Virginia, but the Cardinals remain a serious threat in the ACC standing 11-1 overall coming off a great 73-70 home win against Kentucky. Louisville has shown they can get the job done on both ends of the court and the Cardinals like to build off of their defense which ranks 15th in the nation in points allowed. Louisville also has some solid depth of their own with 7 guys averaging over 6 points per game and Quentin Snider leads the team averaging 11.9 points per game.
Expect this to be a defensive battle with points coming at a premium for both teams. Louisville gets the home court edge, but with students still on break the atmosphere might not be quite as strong for the Cardinals. This veteran Virginia squad has proven themselves on the road and we like for them to push the Cardinals as they go on to cover the spread.
