The Drexel Dragons have shown improvement from where they were a season ago and Drexel is coming off one of their better results of the year beating Quinnipiac on the road by a final of 91-74. Drexel has shown the ability to compete on a consistent basis against their road heavy slate and the Dragons currently stand 6-6 overall as they continue their rebuild. This group has been putting up some respectable offensive numbers ranking 101st in the nation in scoring average compared to 254th in total defense. Drexel has 4 guys averaging in double figures scoring with Rodney Williams leading the way averaging 17.1 points per game.
The Penn Quakers have been a tough team to figure out at times during the nonconference and it’ll be interesting to see how Penn responds after not having played a game over the past 16 days. In their last outing Penn came through in upset fashion on the road beating UCF by a final of 58-49. In their last home game Penn wasn’t as fortunate losing to George Mason by a final of 60-79. The Quakers love to slow the ball and work out of the half court as Penn ranks 304th in the nation in scoring average and 66th in total defense. The Quakers have two players averaging in double figures with AJ Brodeur leading the way averaging 13.9 points per contest.
Penn has had an extended period off and rust could be a bit of an issue for the Quakers out of the gate as a result. Drexel has been road tested throughout the nonconference and this is a game the Dragons have the ability to stay competitive in. We’ll side with Drexel and the moderate amount of points in what is likely to be a lower scoring game.
Drexel +7 -110
