The Marshall Thundering Herd have had to deal with some injuries throughout the nonconference, but this group showed some of their higher potential the other day losing to Cincinnati on the road by a final of 91-93. Marshall has the kind of talent to compete near the top of CUSA this season and this group brings a unique up-tempo style of play ranking 15th in the nation in scoring average compared to 341st in total defense. Marshall has tested themselves so far this season standing 7-5 overall getting another tough nonconference matchup today. Marshall has been led by Jon Elmore who’s averaging 21 points per contest.
The Pitt Panthers bring in a new head coach this season which might keep the ship on the right track in the immediate future, but it’s hard to think anyone could replace the kind of success Jaime Dixon had at this program during his tenure. Pitt has gotten off to a respectable start to the year standing 10-2 overall with their only losses coming against SMU and Duquesne. Pitt has picked up some of their better wins against teams like Marquette, Maryland, Penn State, and Rice. In their last outing the Panthers turned things up offensively getting past Omaha at home by a final of 94-75. The Panthers are led by Young and Artis who’re averaging an impressive 22.2 and 20 points per game respectively.
Marshall looked great in their last outing nearly getting past Cincinnati on the road in a tough environment. The Thundering Herd have what it takes to push the Panthers, but Pitt brings a different style of play to the table. We like Marshall to keep things respectable as they go on to cover this large spread.
