The Canisius Golden Eagles have been a bit hit or miss so far this season standing 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference coming into this matchup against the best team in the MAAC. The Golden Eagles have certainly been testing themselves in true road environments standing 3-2 overall on the road this season including their conference opening win the other day taking down Manhattan by a final of 77-76. Canisius is heading into their third straight road game which could have a wearing effect on this group and fatigue has to be a concern. Canisius has been led by Jermaine Crumpton who’s averaging 16.6 points per game.
The Monmouth Hawks haven’t gotten off to quite the kind of hot start we saw from his group last season, but this is still the clear cut top team in the MAAC. Monmouth has opened the year 5-2 overall with their losses coming in true road tests against South Carolina and Syracuse. In their conference opener Monmouth got past Quinnipiac on the road picking up the win by a final of 91-72. Monmouth loves to push the pace of play and when this group is clicking they’re one of the best offensive teams of all the mid-majors. Surprisingly stud point guard Justin Robinson has gotten off to a slow start this season averaging just 13.1 points per game. Expect this number to go up considerably as the season wears on.
Canisius is heading into their third straight road game which is a concern, especially when going against an up-tempo opponent like Monmouth. The Hawks get everyone’s’ best in MAAC play, but we like for the Hawks to rally past the Golden Eagles as they go on to win and cover this rather large spread.
