Purdue is going to be one of the biggest threats in the Big Ten this season given the Boilermakers boast one of the best frontcourts in all of college basketball. Purdue has gotten off to a nice start this season standing 6-2 overall with their only losses coming in competitive matchups against other top teams Villanova and Louisville. In their last outing Purdue flew past Morehead State beating the Eagles by a final of 90-56. Purdue has displayed blowout potential against moderate competition this season and this group ranks 44th in the nation in scoring average and 75th in total defense.
Arizona State has gone against a mixed bag of competition this season standing 5-3 overall losing in some of their tougher matchup against Northern Iowa, Davidson, and Kentucky. Arizona State was embarrassed on the road against Kentucky losing to the Wildcats by a final of 69-115. Defense has been a major concern for the Sun Devils so far this season as Arizona State ranks 329th in the nation in total defense compared to 28th in scoring average. In their last outing ASU impressed against UNLV picking up the win by a final of 97-73. ASU is likely to finish in the basement of the Pac 12 this season and this group has been led by Tra Holder who’s averaging 17.5 points per game.
Arizona State has consistently come up well short in their tougher matchups so far this season and it would be a surprise to see this change today for the Sun Devils. Purdue can bring a high level of play on both ends of the court and their much better defense should be the difference maker as the Boilermakers go on to win and cover the spread.
