IPFW is expected to be a significant factor in the Summit League this season and the Mastodons have gotten off to a great start this year standing 7-2 overall with their best win coming against in-state foe Indiana. In their last outing IPFW got past Miami Ohio at home picking up the win by a final of 87-71. IPFW has been putting up some big offensive numbers this season, but to be fair some of this has been inflated by some of their weaker matchups, as the Mastodons rank 11th in the nation in scoring average. IPFW has 4 guys averaging in double figures scoring with Mo Evans leading the team averaging 18.1 points per game.
Notre Dame has opened the year 8-0 overall, but some of this has had to do with the easier slate the Irish have elected to go against in the early portion of the season. Notre Dame was able to pick up some strong neutral site wins against quality teams like Colorado and Northwestern and in their last outing Notre Dame got past NC A&T at home by a final of 107-53. The Irish lost some of their top performers from last season’s tournament team and it’ll be interesting to see how this effects the Irish come ACC play. Notre Dame ranks 10th in the nation in scoring average and this group has been led by Beachem and Colson who’re each averaging 17.1 points per game.
Fort Wayne made a name for themselves in the nonconference with their upset win against Indiana and that gives the Mastodons credibility coming into this road matchup against Notre Dame. Both of these teams can light up the scoreboard and we expect a higher scoring affair in this one. We like the Mastodons to keep things respectable as they go on to cover the spread.
