The Villanova Wildcats have looked as good, if not better, than last year’s squad that won the NCAA tournament opening the season 8-0 overall with a number of dominating results already on their resume. Villanova is a veteran group that won’t beat themselves and this squad puts in the effort on both ends of the court ranking 68th in the nation in scoring average and 22nd in total defense. In their last outing the Wildcats ran past Saint Joe’s picking up the win by a final of 88-57. Villanova’s best win on the early season came on the road against Purdue. This is a unselfish squad led by returner Josh Hart who’s averaging 17.1 points per game.
The La Salle Explorers are expected to take a step forward this season in the A-10 given the influx of transfer talent this roster has brought in to bolster their overall talent and depth. La Salle has been decent so far this season against moderate competition standing 4-2 overall with their losses coming against Temple and Texas Southern. The Explorers have picked up 3 wins in a row and in their last outing the Explorers got past Bucknell by a final of 83-73. This La Salle group has favored pushing the pace of play ranking 38th in the nation in scoring average compared to 300th in total defense. Johnson and Price have stepped up to lead the team averaging 18.7 and 18.5 points per game respectively.
The big concern here for La Salle has to be on the defensive side of the ball as they go against one of the more efficient offensive squads in the nation. Villanova has looked dominant all season and the Wildcats have been impressive against more moderate competition. We like the Wildcats to pick up another blowout win as they go on to cover the spread.
