Wake Forest has gotten off to a steady start this season standing 7-2 overall heading into this tricky matchup on the road against in-state foe UNC Greensboro. Wake Forest’s only defeats so far this season have come in tougher matchups against Villanova and Northwestern. In their last outing the Demon Deacons came through at home getting past Charlotte by a final of 91-74. In true road games Wake Forest stands 1-1 with their win coming by 8 points over Richmond. Wake Forest likes to push the pace of play ranking 48th in the nation in scoring average compared to 199th in total defense. John Collins leads the team averaging 18.1 points per game.
We really liked this UNC Greensboro group to build off of the momentum they showed down the stretch last season, and even though the Spartans didn’t come through against the spread in their opener for us, this squad has still been solid standing 7-2 overall. UNCG has stepped up their game on the defensive end as this group ranks 17th in the nation in points allowed. The Spartans are riding a 6 game winning streak, but UNCG has been going against a more manageable slate as of late. The Spartans spread the ball around with Francis Alonso leading the team averaging 13.1 points per game.
This is going to be a tough test for Wake Forest on the road, but the atmosphere shouldn’t be all that great for the Spartans in this one. UNCG has been racking up the wins, but their victories have been coming against manageable opposition. With that said we like the Spartans to keep things competitive as they go on to cover this spread leaning on their defense.
