We like the growth we’ve been seeing out of this George Mason squad thus far through the regular season and the Patriots are ahead of schedule with this current roster standing 11-5 overall. George Mason has shown they can compete on the road winning at places like Northern Iowa, Penn State, and Penn towards the end of the nonconference. The Patriots came up short in their last outing on the road losing to Saint Bonaventure by a final of 72-82 and prior to that the Patriots were coming off an 86-81 win at home against UMass. George Mason ranks around 130th in the nation in both scoring average and total defense and this unit has been led by Marquise Moore who’s averaging 18 points per game.
Saint Joe’s has put up some decent results so far this season, but now without their leading scorer Shavar Newkirk, things have gotten much more difficult for the Hawks going forward. Saint Joe’s has been up and down as of late, first losing to Rhode Island on the road by 30, followed by a nice 70-55 win on the road against Fordham in their last outing. The Hawks have faced a challenging schedule so far this season standing 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the A-10 and this group ranks 238th in the nation in scoring average and 178th in total defense. Without Newkirk, Demery has stepped up now leading the Hawks averaging 16 points per game.
Saint Joe’s remains a work in progress without their leading scorer and this’ll be another good test for the Hawks today coming back to their home court. George Mason has shown the ability to come through on the road this season and we like the Patriots to compete well today as they go on to cover this spread.
