The Baylor Bears have been one of the major surprises so far this season in college basketball as Baylor stands 15-0 overall and 3-0 in conference after there were questions about this group coming into the year given their top two performers had moved on. Baylor has built around their strong defensive efforts as this group ranks 4th in the nation in points allowed and 111th in scoring average. Baylor hasn’t overwhelmed in their last two outings at home barely getting past Iowa State and Oklahoma State, and now things crank up a notch on the road going against one of the other top teams in the Big 12. The versatile Johnathan Motley has stepped up leading the team averaging 15.8 points per game.
The West Virginia Mountaineers play a unique press style of basketball that pretty much can’t be replicated given the amount of quality depth this roster can feed off of. West Virginia has been elite on both sides of the ball this season ranking 4th in the nation in scoring average and 15th in total defense. West Virginia relies a lot on turning their opponents over and that turns into quick fast break points for the Mountaineers. West Virginia looked solid in their last outing getting past TCU at home by a final of 82-70 and on the year this group stands 13-2 overall and 2-1 in conference. The Mountaineers have elite depth with all 15 guys getting minutes.
West Virginia has a strong home court advantage and it’ll be interesting to see how Baylor is able to hand the press today in a tough atmosphere. Baylor hasn’t been quite as impressive as of late and that’s part of the reason why they’re getting this many points today. We like the home team to come through as they go on to win and cover the spread.
