Southern Cal is coming off one of their worst performances of the regular season losing to Utah on the road the other day by a final of 64-86. Perhaps the defeat shouldn’t sting as much for the Trojans given how Utah performed yesterday at home against UCLA as the Utes are starting to look like a legit threat in the conference. USC is starting to get in need of some Pac 12 wins now standing 15-3 overall and 2-3 in league play. USC is an unselfish group that spreads the ball around and the Trojans rank 68th in the nation in scoring average and 154th in total defense. This balanced attack has 5 players averaging in double figures with veteran guard Jordan McLaughlin leading the way averaging 14.2 points per game.
Colorado has far from lived up to their preseason expectations standing 10-7 overall and 0-4 in the Pac 12 and offensive consistency has been a key contributor to the Buffs disappointments. Colorado was supposed to bring in this high caliber offensive unit given all of the weapons they have on the offensive end, but that hasn’t been the case as this group ranks 154th in the nation in scoring average. Colorado was roughed up in their last outing at home by UCLA losing to the Bruins by a final of 104-89 in what was actually one of the better offensive performances on the year for Colorado. The Buffs are riding a 4 game losing streak and Derrick White has led the attack averaging 16 points per game.
Southern Cal can’t be happy with how they’ve been playing on the road thus far in conference play and this is a great chance for the Trojans to get back on track going against what has been one of the worst performers in the league thus far. Colorado is coming off a tough loss to UCLA and the Buffs should have their hands full again today against a competent offensive foe. We like USC to push for the win as they go on to cover the spread.
