Rutgers had some respectable results back during the nonconference that made many hopeful the Scarlet Knights could be adequate in the Big Ten, but that hasn’t been the case thus far as Rutgers stands 11-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference. The Scarlet Knights have been a work in progress on the offensive side of the ball and as a result Rutgers has slowed down their pace of play ranking 37th in the nation in total defense compared to 276th in scoring average. In their last outing Rutgers came up short at home losing to Northwestern by a final of 60-69. Rutgers is riding a 6 game losing streak overall and the Scarlet Knights are led by Nigel Johnson who’s averaging 11.9 points per game.
Indiana hasn’t gotten off to the kind of start they were hoping for in the Big Ten, but the Hoosiers remain a threat standing 11-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Indiana has been arguably the best offensive team in the Big Ten ranking 17th in the nation in scoring average as well as 126th in total defense. Indiana has proven themselves against the big boys this season beating teams like Kansas and North Carolina. In a tough battle the other day Indiana came up just short on the road against Maryland losing to the Terps by a final of 72-75. In their last home game Indiana impressed beating Illinois by a final of 96-80. This deadly offensive attack has been led by veteran guard James Blackmon Jr. who’s playing with confidence averaging 17.6 points per game.
Rutgers has had their hands full in conference play and things don’t get any easier today on the road against a higher performance offensive attack. Indiana should be hungry coming off of a tough defeat and the Hoosiers know they can’t afford to lose to a team like the Scarlet Knights. Behind their elite home court advantage we like Indiana to come through today as they win and cover the spread.
