The Miami Hurricanes have built off of their elite defense as this group stands 12-4 overall and 2-2 in the ACC ranking 4th in the nation in total defense compared to 213th in scoring average. Miami is coming off one of their more impressive outings on the year beating Pitt the other day on the road by a final of 72-46 in what was a tremendous defensive effort for the Canes. Miami had been coming off back to back losses against Syracuse and Notre Dame and the Canes figure to get tested again today on the road. Miami has had three primary scoring threats with Newton, Reed, and Brown all averaging at least 11 points per game.
Wake Forest put up some nice results through the nonconference, but the Demon Deacons have had a tough time finding consistent footing in the ACC standing 10-7 overall and 1-4 in conference. Wake Forest has faced a challenge slate thus far in ACC play, but that’s the case with everyone in this conference given the depth of great teams. In their last outing Wake Forest was competitive at home against North Carolina losing to the Tar Heels by a final of 87-93. The Demon Deacons like to play a lot faster than the Canes ranking 45th in the nation in scoring average and 249th in total defense. Wake Forest spreads the ball around with 4 players averaging in double figures.
Wake Forest is most likely not going to make a run to the NCAA tournament, but even getting to the NIT would have to be considered a step in the right direction for head coach Manning. Wake Forest has played some decent ball at home thus far in conference and we like the Demon Deacons to get the job done today against a Miami squad that’s going back to back on the road.
