Appalachian State has been a bit streaky on both sides of the ball this season and the Mountaineers currently stand 5-7 overall ranking 91st in the nation in scoring average and 218th in total defense. App State lost in their conference opener on the road losing to Texas State by a final of 58-67. The Mountaineers have shown the ability to light up the scoreboard at times this season, but this group has been very hit and miss. Appalachian State has some decent depth with 8 guys averaging at least 5 points per game and Shabazz leads the way averaging 16.1 points per game.
UT Alrington brings back a lot of veteran talent to a team that’s one of the favorites to win the Sun Belt this season and it’ll be interesting to see how the Mavericks come in today against a manageable foe. UTA has been putting together some nice results this season standing 11-3 overall and 1-0 in conference with their conference opening win coming against Coastal Carolina the other day by a final of 90-69. UTA is another group that has played at varying paces this season and the Mavericks currently rank 129th in the nation in scoring and 90th in total defense. UT Arlington has been led by Kevin Hervey who’s aveaging 13.9 points per game.
UTA should be able to take care of business in this conference matchup at home, but this is a ton of points to give to an App State squad that’s at least shown the ability to put up some respectable offensive numbers. We don’t like the Mountaineers to push for the upset, but feel the road team has some decent betting value getting this many points.
