Arizona State was blown out yet again in their last outing as the Sun Devils fell to UCLA on the road by a final of 80-102. ASU continues to be in rebuild mode under head coach Hurley who’s slowly implementing his system and players into the program at Arizona State. The Sun Devils have been inconsistent with their results this season, mainly due to their defensive weaknesses, as Arizona State stands 9-10 overall and 2-4 in conference. ASU loves to push the pace of play ranking 32nd in the nation in scoring average compared to 343rd in total defense. The Sun Devils have been led by Torian Graham who’s been averaging 18.5 points per game.
USC only played offense about 10 of the 40 minutes in their last outing at home against Arizona, and the Trojans were still almost able to pull off the upset, before falling just short in the end. USC wasn’t able to close the impressive comeback against Arizona and with the defeat the Trojans now stand 16-4 overall and 3-4 in conference. USC has been trending backwards a bit as of late losing 3 of their last 4 and the Trojans need to do a better job of closing things out and taking care of business on their home court going forward in league play. USC has tremendous balance with 5 players averaging at least 9 points per game and it’s been guys like Metu, McLaughlin, and Stewart who’ve stepped up to lead the offensive attack.
This is an important game for USC as the Trojans really can’t afford to drop to 2 games below .500 for a team that’s getting knocked for not going against the toughest nonconference slate. ASU is the weakest defensive squad in the Pac 12 and we like for USC to take advantage as they go on to win and cover the spread.
