SMU has been putting up some great results in conference play improving their at-large resume standing 17-4 overall and 7-1 in conference. SMU’s only conference defeat up to this point came on the road against Cincinnati by just 2 points in a highly competitive matchup against the top team in the AAC. In their last outing SMU came through for us again getting past Houston by a final of 85-64 and the Mustangs have been doing a great job of taking advantage of their elite home court advantage. The Mustangs have been performing well on the road in AAC and SMU has been building off of their defense as the Mustangs rank 4th in the nation in points allowed giving up 59.4 points per game.
UCF competed hard in their last outing on the road, but the Knights came up just short against Memphis losing to the Tigers by a final of 65-70. UCF has been a lot better than many were expecting coming into the year, but the Knights have also gone against a more manageable conference slate up to this point now standing 14-5 overall and 5-2 in league play. UCF is 4-0 at home thus far in AAC play, but things get much tougher in this one going against one of the top teams in the conference. The Knights are also a group that leans on their defense as UCF ranks 3rd in the nation in points allowed, but UCF has shown a much lower ceiling on the offensive end than SMU.
This should be a really fun game to watch if you’re a fan of defense as points are likely to come at a premium in this matchup. SMU has been playing very well as of late and the Mustangs have shown they can show up and perform well on the road in AAC play. We like SMU to outpace UCF on the scoreboard given their offensive advantages as they go on to win and cover the spread.
