Iowa was throttled in their last outing on the road by Northwestern losing to the Wildcats by a final of 54-89 and things will be challenging for the Hawkeyes here going into a tough environment in Champaign. Iowa has had their shortcomings on the road in conference play standing 0-3 away from home to now stand 11-9 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes even fell at home in their last outing losing to the emerging Terps by a final of 76-84. Iowa is one of the faster paced teams in the Big Ten ranking 39th in the nation in scoring compared to 303rd in total defense.
Illinois hasn’t had the kind of results they were hoping for in the Big Ten, but this group has been fairly solid at home winning on their home court against teams like Ohio State and Michigan in league play. Illinois is coming off back to back road defeats against Purdue and Michigan, and the Illini are now hungry and desperate to get back on track today as they head back home where they’ll play 3 of their next 4 games. Illinois has shown strengths and deficiencies on both sides of the ball this season ranking 126th in the nation in scoring average and 194th in total defense. Veteran guard Malcolm Hill has led the way averaging 17.8 points per game for the Illini.
Illinois has been a consistent performer for us against the spread in their home games this season and this matchup presents a great chance for the Illini to get back on track today against what has been one of the weaker road teams in the league. We’ll side with Illinois to spate on the scoreboard as they go on to win and cover the spread.
