We expected to be Florida State to be a bit complacent coming into their last outing on the road against Georgia Tech, coming off of their recent wins against Notre Dame and Louisville, but we weren’t expecting the Seminoles to get throttled as they went on to lose to the Yellow Jackets by a final of 56-78. This was the worst performance of the season for Florida State and the coaching staff how has the ammunition to teach and get this group heading back in the right direction. It’s been a great year for the Seminoles up to this point as FSU stands 18-3 overall and 6-2 in the ACC, but Florida State can’t afford too many more defeats like they had against the Yellow jackets if they want to secure a high seeding in the NCAA tournament. FSU has the athletes and talent to play with anyone in the nation and this has been one of the best offensive teams in the ACC ranking 17th in the nation in scoring.
Syracuse had to reload this past offseason coming off their surprise run to the Final Four, and the Orange have been a work in progress this season standing 12-9 overall and 4-4 in the ACC. After coming off back to back convincing losses on the road against North Carolina and Notre Dame, the Orange were able to get back on track in their last outing at home getting past Wake Forest by a final of 81-76. Syracuse doesn’t have the same kind of offensive ceiling as the Seminoles and the Orange have to lean on their solid zone defense to slow play and give themselves a chance against the upper tier teams in the ACC. Nebraska transfer Andrew White has filled a hole for the Orange as he leads this group averaging 16.3 points per game.
Florida State had been looking like a top team in the ACC prior to their last outing, but FSU should be refocused and ready to go as they try and bounce back today against the Orange. Syracuse could really use a resume building win today on their home court for their tournament chances, but we like Florida State to bounce back as they go on to win and cover the spread.
