The Michigan Wolverines have been teetering on the bubble over the past few weeks, but Michigan picked up some needed wins this past week winning back to back at home against Illinois and Indiana. In their last outing Michigan put together one of their best showings of the year getting past Indiana by a final of 90-60 in a contest that was supposed to be competitive. Michigan has been very inconsistent this year which is surprising for a team that has this much experience. The Wolverines don’t mind paying in the half court ranking 47th in the nation in total defense and 153rd in scoring average.
Michigan State has been one of the more disappointing teams in the nation this season, but injuries and working in young players have made the Spartans a work in progress with a high ceiling. MSU is another group in the Big Ten that could use some more resume building wins and after getting off to a hot start in conference play, the Spartans have now fallen back in the standings as of late, standing 12-9 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten. In their last outing Michigan State pushed Purdue at home, but the Spartans fell right at the end by a final of 73-84 in a game that was closer than the final might suggest.
It’s make or break time for Michigan State right now, much like it was for Michigan last week during the Wolverines’ home stand. This is a great rivalry game and the crowd should play a positive factor for the Spartans. In what figures to be a competitive game we like Michigan State to get the edge on the boards and in the paint as MSU goes on to cover the spread.
