North Carolina surprisingly fell in their conference opener losing to Georgia Tech on the road by a final of 63-75. The Tar Heels have largely impressed so far this season standing 12-3 overall and this group has built off of their strengths down low on the offensive end as North Carolina ranks 11th in the nation in scoring average and this group ranks 104th in total defense. North Carolina is loaded with elite talent, but this squad does have some offensive shortcomings with their outside shooting. Veteran forward Justin Jackson has led the way averaging 17.4 points per game.
The Clemson Tigers came into the year hoping they could put together the kind of resume needed to get into the NCAA tournament and so far so good as the Tigers stand 11-2 overall and winning their ACC opener on the road against Wake Forest by a final of 73-68. Clemson has been building momentum winning 9 straight with their last defeat coming back in mid-November. Clemson is a strong defensive squad ranking 40th in the nation in total defense as well as 103rd in scoring average. The Tigers are led by veteran Jaron Blossomgame who’s averaging 17.3 points per game.
It should be interesting to see how North Carolina bounces back today coming off a surprise defeat on the road against an inferior opponent. Clemson has been playing with a lot of confidence and this is a great chance for the Tigers to prove themselves against the top in the ACC. Take Clemson to come through as they go on to cover the spread.
