The Maryland Terps have been one of the surprise teams in the nation this season as this reloaded group has rocketed up in the Big Ten standing 19-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. Maryland lost their bulk of veteran talent this past offseason, but the Terps reloaded well and a number of freshman have stepped up to take on large roles. Maryland came through on the road in their last outing beating Minnesota by a final of 85-78, but this’ll be the Terps 4 road game in their last 5 outings and fatigue has to be a consideration. Maryland is riding a 6 game winning streak and this group is led by veteran guard Melo Trimble who’s averaging 17.1 points per game.
Ohio State has seemingly faced a number of make or break games over the past few weeks and this is another one for the Buckeyes as they try and pick up a resume building win to at least get back into the fringe conversation of the bubble. Ohio State has been pretty solid at home during this stretch picking up some nice recent home wins against Michigan State and Minnesota, but in their last outing Ohio State fell on the road to Iowa by a final of 72-85. Ohio State likes to play off of their defense as this group ranks 82nd in the nation in points allowed and 186th in scoring average.
Ohio State has more of a veteran presence in their lineup than Maryland and this is the kind of matchup at home where one would expect this to be a difference maker for the Buckeyes. Maryland is heading into their 4th road game in their last 5 contests and focus and well as fatigue could be an issue for the Terps. We like Ohio State to compete hard as they go on to cover the spread.
