Loyola Marymount hasn’t quite lived up to their expectations this season standing 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the WCC, but as they head into a more manageable portion of their conference slate they’ll have a better shot at climbing the standings. Loyola Marymount has opened with conference defeats coming against Saint Mary’s and BYU, but the Lions were respectable in each defeat. This group has been steady on both sides of the ball ranking around 150th in the nation in both scoring average and total defense. LMU has won their last two true road games against the likes of CS Northridge and Colorado State. The Lions are led by Brandon Brown who’s averaging 14.5 points per game.
Pepperdine has been falling apart losing their last 9 straight to stand 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the WCC. The Waves have had their issues on both sides of the ball this season ranking 254th in the nation in scoring average and 321st in total defense. To be fair to Pepperdine they have been going against a challenging slate including their last 6 games which have all been on the road. In their last outing Pepperdine fell to Portland by a final of 60-73 in what was another offensive struggle for the Waves. This group has had consistency issues on the offensive side of the ball and Lamond Murray Jr. has led the way averaging 18.9 points per game.
Loyola Marymount has proven themselves on the road over the past month of action and this group gets one of the more winnable road games that they’ll face in the WCC this season. Pepperdine has fallen into a rut and they’ll get a tough test today from a hungry opponent. We like the Lions to come through as they go on to cover the spread.
