This is a great chance for the Cal Golden Bears to test themselves against one of the elite teams in the nation as they go on the road into a tough environment. Cal has been steady this season standing 10-4 overall and 1-1 in the Pac 12. Cal bounced back at home in their last outing getting past Arizona State by a final of 81-65. This broke a two game losing streak where the Golden Bears fell in back to back home games against Virginia and Arizona. Cal has to lean on their defense for success as this group ranks 11th in the nation in points allowed compared to 249th in scoring average. Veteran Jabari Bird leads the offense averaging 15.8 points per game.
The UCLA Bruins have been one of the more exciting teams in the nation to watch this season as this group can light things up standing 14-1 overall ranking 3rd in the nation in scoring average putting up 93.9 points per game. UCLA lost in their conference opener on the road against Oregon on a buzzer beater by a final of 87-89, but the Bruins were able to right the ship in their last outing getting by Oregon State on the road by a final of 76-63. UCLA was one of the most impressive teams in the nation during the nonconference and this group has really surged with an influx of strong freshman talent. UCLA has 6 players averaging at least 11 points per game and TJ Leaf has been a huge difference maker leading the way averaging 17.5 points per game.
UCLA has been dominant on their home court so far this season and when the Bruins get things rolling on the offensive end they’re very tough to stay with. UCLA brings in a huge edge on the offensive side of the ball in this matchup, while Cal will look to slow the pace of play and lean on their defense. We like the Bruins to dictate action on their home court as they go on to win and cover the spread.
