Saint Mary’s has been very impressive so far this season leaning on their elite defense to stand 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the WCC. This veteran Gaels’ squad has been lethal on the defensive side of the ball this year ranking 4th in the nation in points allowed compared to 157th in scoring average. Saint Mary’s came through in their last outing at home against BYU picking up the win by a final of 81-68. The Gaels have won all of their conference games by double digits thus far including their last road outing against Loyola Marymount by a final of 72-60. The Gaels run like a well oiled machine in the half court and the Gaels are led by Jock Landale who’s averaging 18.2 points per game.
San Francisco has been better than expected so far this season, but the Dons haven’t gotten off to their ideal start in conference play now standing 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the WCC. San Francisco is coming off back to back double digit defeats, but that was to be expected in their last outing as the Dons fell to Gonzaga at home by a final of 80-95. The Dons have shown respectable play on both ends of the court this season ranking 108th in the nation in scoring average and 158th in total defense. San Francisco has been led by Ronnie Boyce who’s averaging 15.8 points per contest.
These teams are trending in different direction right now and it’ll be interesting to see how things shake out between these squads this evening. Saint Mary’s doesn’t have a ton of margin of error in conference if they want to win the WCC regular season title. We like the Gaels to come in focused and ready to play as they go on to win and cover the spread.
