Providence has been a bit up and down so far this season, but the Friars have been coming through in a number of their competitive contests standing 6-1 overall coming into this challenge in what will be the first true road test for the Friars this season. Providence was less than impressive in their last outing defensively as the Friars went on to beat Rider at home by a final of 88-84. This was in stark contrast to their prior outing where the Friars beat Boston College by a final of 86-66. Providence has been in search of more consistent offense from veterans Rodney Bullock and Kyron Cartwright who’ve starting stepping up a bit more as of late.
Rhode Island has built up their basketball program over the past few seasons to be a much more competitive threat against higher level competition and the Rams have gotten off to a decent start this year standing 4-2 overall against a challenging slate. Rhode Island’s big win thus far came in their 75-74 victory against Seton Hall and the Rams have fallen to strong opposition Nevada and Virginia. In their last outing the Rams dominated Brown picking up the win by a final of 86-62. Jared Terrell has been leading the offense averaging 19 points per game.
This should be a very intriguing contest to watch between two teams that are looking to continue to build on their respective nonconference resumes. Providence has been a bit up and down offensively, but we like the Friars’ seniors to be a big factor as Providence stays competitive and covers this spread.
