Villanova had a fight on their hands the other day at home from Virginia, but the Wildcats were able to come through in the end picking up the win by a final of 61-59. Villanova has been even better than most were expecting coming into the year off of their national title run as the Wildcats stand 20-2 overall and 7-2 in the Big East. Villanova has been a bit more competitive in their contests as of late including a recent 10 point win at home against Providence. Villanova has been fading in terms of their offensive production as the season has worn on, but the Wildcats remain an elite defensive unit ranking 15th in the nation in points allowed and 87th in scoring average.
The Providence Friars picked up a great win on the road against Marquette in their last outing getting past the Golden Eagles by a final of 79-78. The Friars are 3-2 in their last 5 games and this group has been very competitive throughout conference play now standing 14-9 overall and 4-6 in the Big East. Providence could really use some resume building wins to get back into the bubble conversation, but a run to the NIT is probably where the Friars will end up this year. The Friars are another squad that likes to build off of their defense as they rank 54th in the nation in points allowed. Providence has been led by forward Rodney Bullock who’s averaging 17.3 points per game.
Providence played well in their outing a couple weeks ago on the road against Villanova and this is a chance for the Friars to exact some revenge behind their home court advantage. The Wildcats are coming off a hard fought win and this has potential trap game written all over it as a result. Take the Friars to stay competitive as they go on to cover this large spread.
