Seton Hall was unable to get the job done in their last outing as the Pirates fell short at home to Butler by a final of 54-61. Seton Hall has a veteran roster and it would be a shame if this squad was unable to make the NCAA tournament, but the Pirates need to start racking up some resume wins to increase their odds. Seton Hall isn’t the prettiest team by any means, but their toughness in the paint can be a difference maker as the Pirates rank 8th in the nation in rebounding. Seton Hall has at least shown some respectable results on the road having their chances in close defeats recently at Marquette and Providence.
Xavier will be without their distributor Edmond Sumner for this one and that can have a serious impact on this group offensively. Xavier is just 2-4 overall in their last 6 games, but still in good standing to make the NCAA tournament sitting 15-6 overall and 5-3 in the Big East. In their last outing Xavier came through on the road beating Saint John’s by a final of 82-77 and this was a nice bounce back result for the Musketeers who were coming off a disappointing loss against rival Cincinnati. Xavier has been up and down on both sides of the ball this season, but the Musketeers generally play to the pace of their competition ranking 97th in the nation in scoring and 126th in total defense.
Seton Hall is desperate to get some more resume building wins, but the Pirates will get their chances down the stretch in the Big East. Without Sumner it’ll be interesting to see how things do for Xavier on the offensive end, especially against a physical opponent like the Pirates. Take Seton Hall to keep things close as they go on to cover the spread.
