The Belmont Bruins have been a consistent performer in the OVC this season and it’ll be interesting to see how the Bruins show today on the road against one of the other top teams in the league. Belmont took care of business in their last outing getting past SIU Edwardsville by a final of 92-69 and with the win the Bruins improved to 16-4 overall and 10-0 in conference. Belmont tested themselves well back during the nonconference and this group has taken that experience and generally picked up convincing wins in the OVC over the past month. Belmont is led by veteran forward Evan Bradds who’s averaging 21.1 points per game.
Murray State has clearly been less consistent than Belmont throughout OVC play this season, but the Racers are still a threat in this league standing 12-11 overall and 6-3 in conference. Murray State has a tremendous home court advantage that they’ve used well this season and in their last outing the Racers came through at home beating UT Martin by a final of 94-86. Murray State is one of the faster paced teams in the OVC ranking 45th in the nation in scoring average compared to 275th in points allowed. The Racers are led by Jonathan Stark who’s taken a big step forward this season averaging 20.7 points per game and he’ll have to step up today to give Murray State a chance.
Belmont has played very well in the OVC this season, but this is one of the tougher scenarios the Bruins will face going into a brutal environment against the West division leaders. Murray State will treat this like one of their most important games of the year and they’ll bring the effort needed to give them a shot at the upset. Take the Racers with the points as a solid value bet in this contest.
