Southern Utah took one on the chin in their last outing on their home court falling to Northern Colorado by a final of 71-89. It’s been another tough go for the Thunderbirds this season standing 4-18 overall and 2-7 in conference. The Thunderbirds like to play fast, but this group has often been porous on the defensive end ranking 86th in the nation in scoring average compared to 346th in points allowed. Even though Southern Utah has struggled and been blown out on a number of occasions, this group is still led by one of the top offensive players in the Bug Sky with Randy Onwuasor who’s averaging 23 points per contest.
Weber State did a good job of testing themselves back during the nonconference and that prepped the Wildcats well for action in the Big Sky as Weber State now stands 12-7 overall and 7-1 in conference. In their last outing Weber State dominated Idaho State at home pulling away in the second half to pick up the win by a final of 96-74. The Wildcats are another group that likes to play with some pace ranking 78th in the nation in scoring average and 161st in total defense. Veteran guard Jeremy Senglin has led the attack for Weber State averaging 20.4 points per game.
Weber State has shown growth throughout the regular season and the Wildcats are playing some of their best ball of the year right now. Southern Utah has been susceptible to the blowout and that should be the case again today as Weber State goes on to win and cover this large spread.
