Evansville opened the season with a poor showing on the road against Illinois, but the Purple Aces have been trending in a positive direction falling at Xavier by just 6 points and taking down a decent Texas Southern squad in their last outing by a final of 85-63. Evansville brings in new head coach Walter McCarty who’s another ex-NBAer to try his hand at coaching D1 basketball. The Purple Aces have 5 players averaging in double figures with Shea Feehan leading the team averaging 15 points per game.
Ball State hasn’t been shy about scheduling tough nonconference games as the Cardinals have fallen against the likes of Purdue, Virginia Tech, and Alabama. The Cardinals stand 2-3 overall with their victories coming against mid-major opponents Indiana State and Appalachian State. Ball State should compete in the upper tier of the MAC this season and this group has been led by Tayler Persons who’s averaging 19 points per game.
We like what Evansville showed in their last outing against Texas Southern and the Purple Aces will try and carry that offensive momentum into this tough matchup on the road. We feel Evansville can stay competitive enough to grab the cover getting a considerable amount of points.
