Saint Mary’s has shown they can completely dominate the mid and lower tier teams in the WCC, but the Gaels have also had their share of competitive contests on their way to standing 23-2 overall and 12-0 in conference. Saint Mary’s has strengths on both sides of the ball ranking 63rd in the nation in scoring and 19th in total defense with a positive plus/minus of about +15 points. We faded Saint Mary’s in their last outing on the road against a strong defensive San Diego squad, but feel the Gaels have a much better shot today against the defensively challenged Lions.
Loyola Marymount has faded into the basement of the WCC now standing 7-16 overall and just 2-10 in conference. The Lions were throttled on the road against Saint Mary’s earlier in league play losing to the Gaels by a final of 59-87. The Lions have lacked an identity this year ranking 199th in the nation in scoring and 286th in total defense. LMU had a frustrating finish in their last outing falling to Portland on the road by a final of 66-68.
Saint Mary’s has already blown out the Lions this season and the Gaels should be invigorated to come out firing today coming off the competitive game in their last outing. We like Saint Mary’s to get the job done as they go on to win and cover this sizeable spread on the road.
